boy meets boy

The novel "Boy meets Boy" is rather interesting. It focuses on a topics that many people have a problem with talking about or giving attention to. I found it rather interesting as well how Paul came to revelation that he was gay. It makes me think is it really a genetic trait or is being an homosexual an adaptable or labeled traits that one grows into.
For instance, when Paul teacher noted on the report card that he was "Definitely gay" while he was in Kindergarten... wasn't this a premature time for such a discovery? It was from this point on he came out of the closet as he stated; i am therefore forced to ask isnt this too early to determine whether a child is an homosexual or not? I do believe so because during this phase a child explores things and learn from the experience they recieve from these explorations. However, when Mrs. Benchly told him he's gay could that be interpreted as she "prospheying" his expected sexuality, granted that paul had some feelings towards boys prior to his discussion with Mrs. Benchly. But i believe that kindergarden is not an appropriate time or age to make such judgement. Similarly to diagnosing a child to ADD and other behaviorial disabilities. It is during the childhood phase of one life they should be expected to act as children: hyperactive, curious of the world around them and even sexuality.
"VOTE FOR ME... I'M GAY!" This reflects the degree of acceptance of homosexuality in Paul's society which is quiet recommendable. Although met with some opposition, such as the boys who decided to beat Paul up and call him derogatory names.Unfortunately, the society in which we live (2008) continues to hold various prejudices on numerous groups of people for many indifferences. One can only hope for a day or time as described in this novel where the majority will become more tolerant and accepting or diversity and changes. Do u believe that there will ever come a time when people/ society is tolerant of others who divert from the norm, such as homosexuals, gender and racial ideal?
